In the 1940s. New York. 6 a.m.
From a warship anchoring in Brooklyn, three sailors, Gabey, Chip, and Ozzie who are allowed 24-hour leave spread into the city of New York for the first time ever in their lives.
On the subway, Gabey falls in love with Ivy on a poster at the first sight. The three sailors decide looking for her individually in different places. Chip meets a taxi driver, Hildy. On the other hand, Ozzie encountered an anthropologist Claire at the Museum of Natural History. They enjoy a moment's avant-turf.
