Madama Butterfly is a story about Cio-Cio-San who waits intently for her husband, an American naval officer, in Nagasaki at the end of the 19th century. The dramatic tragedy with sweet music by Giacomo Puccini has been loved around the world for 120 years.
The premiere at Hyogo Performing Arts Center in 2006, the first season of the Center, was staged under the baton of artistic director Yutaka Sado with his strong enthusiasm. As the beautiful stage directed by the late Masayoshi Kuriyama has gained superb reputations, this production had been brought on the stage again in the spring of 2008. In 2024, 16 years later, the curtain will rise on a renewed version of Madama Butterfly with dream cast!
